Sagrada Familia is a breathtaking cathedral in Barcelona, and this week I had the privilege of visiting it for the second time in my life. After more than 100 years, this building remains unfinished. And that’s part of it’s magnetic appeal.

I don’t often tell people about the kind of psychology I do. It’s not that I’m not proud of it, but because it is generally misunderstood. When I tell people my work involves applying positive psychology and building resilience in the workplace, they usually look at me like I’m a flake. Implementing changes in our personal and professional lives can be extremely challenging. We are wired for safety and nothing quite flicks our safety switch like the prospect of change. In fact, one of our key survival strategies is to stabilise what keeps changing in order to maintain equilibrium, so our brains are very good at sending us warning signals whenever change is in the air.
